Snags in Stockholm

Well, Stockholm is going okay but not as beautifully as Amsterdam. We started on a tough note - the only reasonably priced flight on Monday left at 9:20 pm. So a 2 hour flight after a day of sightseeing was not the best. But the flight went as well as could be expected and the train into Stockholm was fine.

Today Uri had to work o Anna and I were on our own. I had exactly one diaper left so the first order of the day was to buy some more. This was not terribly hard but not simple either. Although drugstore type places have wipes, breast pumps, pacifiers, etc., the do not have diapers. I finally located a supermarket in the basement level of a department store. It took me forever to find the diapers in the store.. Tucked away in a back corner past the chilled dairy case. When I got there I saw a shelf with some recognizable baby items and some that were a mystery to me. I pulled out my one last diaper and showed it to a mom pushing a stroller. I said - do you know where I can find more like this? She looked confused and said "size four?" which it said on the diaper. Just about then I saw around he corner (seriously yet another corner to hide the diapers behind!) to a big display with pampers and all that. So I was fine except that the smallest was a 46 pack... More than I wanted to lug around. But anyway... Diaper problem solved.

I wish getting to the zoo / aquarium had been that easy but it was a whole thing with a bus then a tram and hen I tried to get on the bus they wouldn't take payment (even in kroner! Small bills!) so I just got off and gave up. Most places I've ridden a bus ... You can buy a ticket once you are on. Boo Stockholm, sucky. And while it is cool that women pushing a stroller can ride the bus free - it is stupid that a woman physically carrying her small child (me with the carrier) can't ride free. Shit I couldnt even pay to ride. I was disheartened after that so I went back and had lunch with Anna at the Sheraton bar. Sad times when you waste a travel meal at a business hotel. But I just didn't have the strength to face any more novelty at the moment. Swedish is so much more difficult to guess at than Dutch and fewer people here speak English. Also it's just not as user friendly of a city as Amsterdam.

After lunch, we regrouped in the hotel room and then walked to the old city which was lovely. There were some places that looked interesting for dinner but I might just give in and eat here again. Anna and I are heading back to the airport alone tomorrow to go to Helsinki. Uri will meet us there later in the evening after work. I might just call today a recuperate day. We've been lucky to have beautiful weather nd smooth travels (on the whole) so far, I hope the trend continues.
