My goodness - the little on is on a rolling spree. In the last week or so she learned to roll from her stomach to her back. She already knew how to roll from her back to her stomach. So now she can connect the rolls and she is going all over the place. At first we just did away with floor blankets altogether but then we saw that she was getting a little bit of rug rash on the back of her head from the constant rolling. So we put a big blanket down, one that we used when watching movies or something. It's big enough that she can roll and roll on it - then we flip her around and she rolls back the other way. I put toys in her path so that she has little things to entertain herself with along the journey.
Yesterday my mommy & me friends came over with their babies. It was fun - we all enjoyed hanging out and seeing how much all the babies have grown and changed. When we started the class, the babies were immobile and pretty much just slept or laid there. Now they are vocalizing, scooching, laughing, looking at each other - very different from the beginning. The little one was rolling all over the party, checking out the other babies' toys. At one point, she rolled up to a little boy, grabbed his hand, and started eating it. At first he was okay with it but then he started crying. Who knows what she was thinking. Probably saw his hand and thought "that looks like one of my favorite things to eat!" Since she loves putting her own hand in her mouth. She was probably just excited to see another one.
So she is very excited about her new mobility. Yesterday she took teeny morning and afternoon naps - I think because she wanted to roll around. Maybe also because she slept in until 8:30. Everyone needed a little extra sleep Saturday morning.
Another thing that has been going on here is that I am soliciting donations for the silent auction at our teacher appreciation night at school. I am so thrilled at the generosity we've received. I am excited because I've been able to put together a San Francisco getaway. From one friend I received a night at the Hotel Vitale and then from another friend I received a $100 gift certificate to Cafe Luna - both in San Francisco. So hopefully that will be a really popular item. I am working at figuring out how to get a Southwest ticket to SFO but that hasn't been as easy. Wouldn't that be cool? It reminds me of my old cold calling days - I didn't think that was a skill I'd have to use again.
I also secured a donation from the new pizza place we like - NY&C, and I think I'm closing in on a gift certificate from Santa Monica Seafood. I feel like it's been a pretty successful effort so far. Don't be surprised if you get a call or email from me asking for a donation!
Also, DH volunteered yesterday for Pitch In Day at the school. He washed and sanitized all their little kitchen tables and chairs and swept and sanitized the backyard. He enjoyed meeting some of the other dads who were also doing the hard labor. He said the moms were doing more organizing and things like that.
It's exciting because I feel like it's more than just a place where they watch the little one while I'm at work. It's truly a community of families and I'm excited to be a part of it. I think it's going to be a really fun adventure.
Well, DH has decreed that today is "football day". It's the playoffs, it starts at noon, and that is what we are doing all day. I may leave the little one with him for an hour or two and sneak out to go shopping. I realize that lots of the stuff I've been wearing is from 2008 because last year I didn't really buy anything because of the pregnancy. I did buy a couple new things before returning to work but I really need some new jeans. We'll see.
OK - hope everyone has a great Sunday.
