Mommy & Me Tonight

Tonight the little one and I have our first Mommy & Me class. It's called BABYGROUP and I signed up for it back in January because I heard it filled up fast. It is a pretty expensive class - I think around $600 when you include all the fees - this is for 10 classes so $60 per class. Some of my friends from birth class found much more affordable classes and I definitely would have done one of those if I wasn't already locked into BABYGROUP. But the nice thing is, the classes are in walking distance from the apartment. We've only put the little one in the car to go to her two doctor visits and one trip to view a daycare. So I'm not exactly a pro at it. I much prefer walking places if I have a choice.

This weekend was a blast - we had Super Auntie over on Saturday and also some friends for dinner - DH cooked burgers and fries. It was his first attempt at making fries and he did pretty well for a first time. It got a little hectic when it was time to serve the food like it always does but it turned out okay. Then on Sunday he cooked BLTs for breakfast and a BBQd a whole chicken for dinner... all delicious stuff.

We also enjoyed an outing on Sunday, my friend Diana's housewarming party. It was so fun to GO to a party somewhere instead of having one here. Hooray for that! And Super Auntie took care of the little one so DH and I were able to go to the party on our own. Although there were tons of babies there - littles would have fit right in. I was a little concerned though because she hasn't even had any of her vaccinations and I didn't want her to catch anything. All the other babies were older and had gone through at least some vaccinations. I guess at BABYGROUP tonight there will be other babies and people that she could catch something from - hmm - but I don't know, it was just nice to go to a party as a couple. Although we ended up just talking about babies the whole time with the other parents.

Man, I can't believe how much being a parent already defines me! It's not that I don't have anything else to talk about but it's just so fun to have other parents around and then you can both ramble on about kids and all those topics that go along with them. I found myself at the party talking with two of my college sorority sisters about the different kinds of Pampers. Really? Who would have imagined that back in the day? They both were recommending Pampers Dry Baby which I hadn't even heard of! Darn because I have a huge box of the Pampers Swaddlers to get through. I want the Pampers Dry Baby though!! It will just have to wait until the next order I guess.

So I am trying to decide when to move the little one out of our bed. I was initially thinking of doing it when she's two months old but it's hard because I like having her next to me. It's so cute. But I know we eventually have to do it. We'll see. I guess when the time is right I will know.

Well, I'll let everyone know how Mommy & Me goes. They do have this big confidentiality thing because people bring up sensitive issues but I won't blab on peoples' secrets. Also there was mention that there could be a celebrity in the group so you may have to deal with paparazzi. How funny would that be? I'm sure they had to add that disclaimer because there have been one or two celebs over time but I doubt there will be one in my group. That would be funny though! Maybe my leg or arm could show up in the next issue of People as I'm leaving the class. Ha ha.

Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend!

  1. Have you read the books Notes from the Underbely and Tales from the Crib? They are by Risa Green and are hilarious. I think the Mommy & Me group you are going to sounds exactly like the one she went to in Tales from the Crib. If you haven't read them, I think you would like. They are an irreverent look at pregnancy/mommyhood from an L.A. lady and made me laugh out loud.

  3. I wish we lived closer -- you could have my copies. I think I read Tales from the Crib in a day or two. It was one of those kinds of books.
