Work has been really busy but manageable - I can't believe it but we have another distribution tomorrow. But I can get it done. It's actually good for me to balance things I think - helps prepare me for that inevitable day when I have to go back to work.
For those of you wondering how many diapers newborns go through in a day, the little one goes through an average of 11 - wow - that is a lot! She eats about every 3 hours or so - sometimes she eats in clusters and that's about every hour - but she feeds pretty quickly now that my milk flow is so strong. Sometimes she pulls off mid-meal and man, it's like a fire sprinkler! Milk going every which way! The good news is that she is gaining so much weight we can let her sleep up to 6 hours at night. Dr. Huang said that hopefully by 1 month she'll get to sleeping 8 hours at a time. I am glad she sleeps well but sometimes I feel like this should be more challenging! She basically eats, gets burped, gets changed, then sleeps. It's not really overwhelming at all. So preggos out there take heart! You can do this!
Also, I've mentioned before but breast feeding mommies you have to learn the laying down breast feeding thing. It's so easy. The brest friend is great for when I'm working, eating or socializing but the laying down thing is awesome for sleep and pretty much every other time. I just lay with her on a blanket on the floor - it's relaxing for both of us.
So I've said some of the products I really love, one thing I haven't used much is the Itzbeen. That little contraption that records how long it's been since she's last eaten, slept, etc. It was $24 and a waste if you ask me. We also have WAY too many clothes. She basically can wear the same shirt for a whole day and we have our laundry done every week so I'd have been fine with about 10 shirts/onesies or so and I probably have 35. Oh well. At least I got a bunch of stuff at Ross so it didn't cost too much. We're still waiting for her umbilical cord to fall off so we can snap the onesies but it can take up to a month I guess. I can't wait for it to fall off so we can try the wash pod.
We do use a TON of receiving blankets but we haven't run out. I think we have around 16 or so of those. When we run out of burp cloths, which always happen, I start using receiving blankets.
We have switched from using the cotton wipes from the hospital that we were wetting with warm water to pampers sensitive wipes and it's been fine on her skin. We also use pampers swaddlers newborn size and they are great. We've only had one diaper leak. And man, when they say that the diapers should be yellow and seedy looking, they mean YELLOW. Her diapers are like school bus yellow a lot of the time. It's funny.
Well, all is pretty good here. She gets fussy after she eats but there is always a burp and then she feels better. We're having fun with her. DH returns to work next week. We've both been working from home but he'll probably be going back into the office. It will be more challenging without him here but hopefully he'll still work from home some days.
Lastly, I want to send some loving out to Super Auntie. She has been having a bit of a rough year and a terrible day today and we are thinking of her. We know she will do well in the end, this is just a rough patch.
Here are some pictures...

Have a great day everyone!
Awww - I love the last picture. You guys are simply the portrait of a happy family. Too cute!
ReplyDeleteI'm loving all the helpful info - thank you! It will definitely come in handy soon (SOON SOON SOON!! Aaack!). For instance, I don't have many onesies, so I'm glad to know I don't need to run out and buy more. Phew!
Keep the photos coming! So glad everything is wonderful.
Nice camera work Uri. Everyone is looking good and healthy. Even Russel and Josey.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that baby is eating so well!! That's great news! I went to a La Leche league meeting last night in SM and there were some women there that were having some real problems, I felt so bad for them. I'm so happy to hear you're doing so well with it!! And I'm sure you are happy knowing that she's gaining so much weight, and if she's sleeping 8 hours a night at 1 month, you are going to be so blessed, huh?!?! That would be great!
ReplyDeleteAlso, thanks for the diaper count tip. We plan to clothe diaper (at least try it!) so it's good to know in advance we should order a lot... although I think they recommend starting with 80 a week for newborns, which is right on par with Anna's schedule! Thanks for letting me know about the school bus yellow urine! I hadn't read that/or known that, so glad to know, otherwise I think I might have been worried!
Keep up the good work Mama! I love reading your blog!
